My Most Recent Fail

Blog Azeroth each week gives bloggers a shared topic, this gives bloggers a chance to pick up on a topic and give it their own unique spin. It’s a nice way to establish a blogging community and so I thought I’d join in with this week’s shared topic on the subject of fail.

My most recent fail, that was my fault not anybody else’s, was whilst I was soloing ZG. I’ve picked up the stamina trinkets from Coren Direbrew, the Brewfest boss in BRD, purely because nobody else wanted them and they’re great for soloing. Usually, I use the dark brewmaiden for a little extra DPS. This is quite nice on the raptor boss, snake boss, Attumen… Well, I cleared the first few, always leave the tiger for last, purely because of the route I’m used to in the instance, and I headed over. Skipped past the cubs and axe throwers as usual, dismounted, checked Turdul was going to behave herself, my mana bar was full, all the usual. Pulled. Fine. Got the first 3 down after a while, though fairly easily, tiger boss popped up, and I popped my DPS macro. This uses Bestial Wrath, Rapid Fire, and my trinkets. I thought this was fine until half of the room of axe throwers ran over, and Feign Death was on CD. In fact… I managed to Feign Death, but you remember that lovely knockback the tiger boss does? I died quite horribly and learnt to make a separate DPS macro for soloing and just put my trinkets on my bars instead.

Getting Stuff Done

slideyAfter spending several days sorting out this blog, I’m not very technically minded so it took me a little longer than it could have, I finally forced myself to log in and get a group for Direbrew. Past few days I’ve been slacking on my dailies because I’ve had the “you haven’t done Direbrew” looming over my head, so I spent all of my time on The Lazy Sniper instead. A few friends were around so we went. No mounts or even a remote dropped, but a relief to get it done finally.

So getting the one thing that was bothering me done, I tootled off to ZG. Whilst on the zeppelin a warrior whispered me saying I have a nice name, which was admittedly random but also nice to get compliments from strangers occasionally. Did the usual Raptor boss, raptor trash (every single bit of it, still need the Razzashi and Gundrak raptor pets), Tiger boss and Snake boss. Again no mounts but with drops and vendor items alone I earnt 100g for some easy soloable content, not including the 50 rugged leather I picked up from the raptor trash I killed, which I should be able to sell for about 20g a stack. Okay, Tiger boss is tedious with me only being able to interrupt every 2 minutes , Arcane Torrent, and draining 4% of 20k mana every 10 seconds or something does take a while, but if the tiger mount drops, it will be worth it.attackplans

This left me with 2 hours until the dailies reset and God knows how long until the servers went down. Plenty of time to do the Tournament dailies, get my last Champion of Hordecity (Sen’jin), and get NomNom a little bit of experience. I’m looking for rares even more when I’m levelling a pet, gives them a heck of a lot of experience killing one. Anyway, almost finished, killing a few Valkyr at Hrothgar’s Landing for the stolen tallstrider legs, and I get the attack plans to the right drop. I haven’t seen these or heard of them before, but it’s 13g to hand it in, so no more avoiding Valkyr while you’re saving Tuskarr.

The battle for Wintergrasp started when I tried to do my fishing daily (terrorfish) so I joined the battle, killed a gnome with my trusty sporebat Slidey, and somehow we won. Well a free 2 WG marks for me I guess. The only person online in guild at this point asked me if I wanted to DPS Vault 10, well, I wasn’t saved and it reset in a few hours time so of course I went, if anything I grabbed a couple of Emblems of Triumph towards my shoulders. Nothing interesting dropped but it’s always nice to get things done.

My plan now is to do my Brewfest dailies on my priest for the next couple of days (she needs Brewmaster and Merrymaker for the drake.. might as well, it’s a free 310% mount that I get for running past a few barrels and pretending to be a gnome for a bit in AV), do her Tournament dailies to get Fae any pets she doesn’t have yet, do Fae’s fishing, cooking, Tournament dailies, and ZG if that’s reset. Also need to finish off Zul’drak, Howling Fjord and a few quests in Outland which is going to be a little bit of money. Let’s see if I can actually stick to it.

Playing as a Casual

Now, I’m going to semi repeat myself here because this is getting a little ridiculous. Vashj has a Low/Med population and I’ve been used to that because I’ve had a good friends base, decent guilds to talk in, but recently it’s been getting a little ridiculous. A lot of people seem to be off playing Aion or God knows what. None of my friends seem to be around much, not worth starting a conversation they’re on for such a short time. I don’t want to start raiding with the guild again purely because I tried and couldn’t stand it. I check /2 for pugs and it seems almost impossible… Starting to think about moving elsewhere but I don’t really want to play without Dan this time. Losing faith in Vashj, I moved before, missed everyone. Now everyone’s basically not there.. I’m not going to stop playing Fae, she is my main. But playing her at the moment feels like a chore with this much inactivity and… ignorance.

Tonight Matthew, I will be…

Levelling my Warlock!

Now, I could tell you how I’ve become hooked on physical DPS classes, of course, mostly Hunter. However, when I first started playing, I loved the idea of a magical damage class. I was told to roll a Warlock because it was a caster and the pets made it easier to level. Started levelling her early enough to be forced to make her an Undead (because it was the most normal looking horde race), and to grab the title ‘Scout’. Going to average it at about 4 or 5 months before Burning Crusade was released. My second class was Shadow Priest and I did try to level a Mage, though that didn’t last very long until I levelled my Paladin and finally, my hunter.

Recently, with the quietness in WoW, probably due to Aion, I’ve been thinking about levelling an alt. I think it’s time I levelled Hadlo, she’s been sat at 70 for way over a year and I’d like to see how the class plays these days. Well.. that and I want to be purple Illidan!

First Spotlight

I’ve decided to include spotlighting in my blog, like many others, purely because I like to share the things I like. I’m not limiting this to blogs, or podcasts either, because there are some decent resource websites around which also deserve a spotlight. This won’t be a regular feature as such, just as and when I feel like adding something.

I’m going to start with the Warcraft Hunters Union. Frostheim has included some absolutely wonderful guides on all things hunter, a few guest posts in there as well, which are so well done I haven’t felt the need to bother checking EJ recently (as good a theorycrafting hub as it is, traipsing through the 40 page long threads kills me a little). The guides include helping you to become a better raiding hunter with macro guides, gemming, professions, rotations, all sorts of things to help bring your DPS up. There are also some awesome guides on soloing content, on how to spec/gear/gem for it, and what tactics to use as you go. Along with the excellent guides, he is also a brilliant blogger. Well-written, funny, interesting, useful, informative. If you haven’t already, I recommend you add it to your RSS feed :)

Attumen Soloed!

Logged into Fae tonight after a little time on my Night Elf Death Knight, Soupdragon, to notice a couple of friends in Tempest Keep, Dan got us both spots and lucky for me, I grabbed the tier 5 chest and shoulders giving me the 2 set finally! That is 15% of your damage heals your pet. So I fiddled around a little with my soloing gear, to be using 2 pieces of tier 5 and 2 pieces of tier 7 (5% extra pet damage). Anyway, after trying back on Jaedia without tier 5, I decided to pop back to Attumen, in Karazhan, and test the new 2 set and my God it makes a difference. Instead of panicking if my pet gets low on health I just need to nuke a little harder. Used foods and 2x level 80 stamina scrolls (on both me and my turtle), overall my pet had 25k health and the only wipes were me playing around with the trash packs before Attumen.

A tip for the trash, prioritise killing Stable Hands first because they damage your pet the most, then Chargers because they’re annoying to you, then the rest, and always make sure you pull back to avoid overpulls. Attumen himself is pretty much tank and spank, keep up Mend Pet, nuke down Midnight obviously Misdirecting occasionally, don’t want to overaggro, then onto Attumen, all the time ensuring Mend Pet is up and I highly recommend getting 2 pieces of tier 5 if you can. Time for me to go back to MGT HC, after failing miserably at the second boss yesterday, and test it out some more methinks.

Faction Change Guide

I was personally excited to hear about Faction Change and Race Change services Blizzard announced to be implemented. Now that Faction Changes are available in the US and EU, I decided to lay down the basics.

First of all, these do not include a free server transfer and you can only change one character’s faction in one payment. Now that PvP realms allow you to have both Horde and Alliance on the same server, there are no server limitations. The only thing you are limited to is races, for hunters (see ‘Racials’), for example, you cannot switch from an Orc to a Gnome. This service comes with character customisation and an optional character name change. If you want to eventually change back to your original faction, you may choose a different race to the one you originally chose. Though bear in mind, Blizzard are working on race changes.

Faction specific items will be switched. You will not lose anything in the process. This includes, but is not limited to, gear, vanity pets, mounts, achievements, titles, reputation (a full list of faction counterparts can be found here). All quests and quest items will be reset, though restored if switched back to original faction. If, for example, you have completed every quest in Storm Peaks, you will keep the achievement, however, you will be able to redo the quests for money. Items which are not faction specific, i.e. Food and water, will be unaffected by the change.

Friends lists, ignore lists, guilds and arena teams, as expected, will be reset. You will be able to keep your earnt honour, arena points, marks, emblems, however pending arena points may be lost in the transaction. Bear in mind if you have any pending auctions or mail in your inbox that this will block the faction change. For a level 80 character, the gold limit is 20,000g, be sure to leave any additional on other characters or with friends if you’re feeling generous.

Another thing I have been lead to believe, as with a server transfer, any saved instances will be reset. If you cleared Ulduar on a Wednesday and faction changed on the Thursday, you should be able to clear it again before the end of the week. Though please don’t quote me on this.

Volley Buffed

I always thought it was just me, but when I first entered Naxx with my nerfed Volley, it still seemed pretty overpowered, I still managed to top the trash meters with ease. However, once I and others around me geared up, it seemed harder for me to top meters for 5 mans and AOE-able trash. I figured it scaled with gear but I never heard any complaints to tell me otherwise.

Well, here’s a small comment by Ghostcrawler:
“The AP coefficient of Volley has been increased from 0.0586 to 0.0837. Base points did not change. This probably did not make the patch notes.”

Casual Play

I made a decision that if I end up playing WoW, it will be as a casual, no more proper guild raiding for me. If this happens I’ll end up achievement farming and I really am tempted to go for ‘The Insane’ … I don’t know why but I really want to do it. My priest farmed pirates outside of Booty Bay so much that she was revered with every Goblin faction… which put me off going for Bloodsail Buccaneer rep. However, Fae has only touched the Goblin stuff that she used to level with sooo.. if I’m feeling really crazy I might just do it.

Another thing about being a casual I remembered is not having any use for min maxing anymore! Woohoo. First thing I did was head to the North of Winterspring, and there was my little rare kitty wandering around. He became an ice cube, and can now be seen following me around going by the name of ‘NomNom’. Yay. Never really liked wolves. Suppose I’ll get Shifter out if I ever get into a 10 man or something for the extra DPS but otherwise he’ll be gathering dust…

You know my stable is so full I couldn’t tame another pet. Got my turtle for soloing, sporebat for PvP, bear for the sentimental value (first pet, effort, blabla), wolf and now cat.
