PvP & Me

I guess it’s about time I did one of these. So hi, my name is Jaedia, and I hate PvP. Okay perhaps ‘hate’ isn’t the right word, but whenever I try to I get anxious over how much they’re thinking, “Ha! This hunter is shit! Free HKs!” Also, really frustrated. I avoid it most of the time because I don’t feel the need to torture myself. However, once in a blue moon I do get the urge to fling my pixels into a crowd of red names and shoot at them until I’m dead. Yes, this is how it usually goes unless a healer takes pity on me.

Back in TBC, I attempted to PvP as a shadow priest. I can remember being very squishy, and I can remember thinking “Ooh shadow priests, easy kills” but I can also remember how fun it was trying to master something which was supposedly not built for what I was doing. Flinging DoTs around, fearing, Mind Flay slowing melee classes, it was genuinely fun when I was in the right mood. Then in Wrath, they gave shadow priests the terror, I forget what its’ name is now, but running around disarming melee classes was, to me, funny.

I rerolled hunter for the first few months of Wrath, and then May onwards. My God I was terrible at it. Some PvP hunters make it look so simple, but I’ll pop my PvP trinket out of stuns, disengage away, shoot them to death, whether it’s their death or my death.

My being bad at PvP aside, shooting people in the face is fun, and I want to grab some achievements. I’m aiming to go for Wrecking Ball one day when I find a willing healer, I think I managed to get 17 killing blows without dying once and was then jumped by a rogue, a warrior, and a PvP trinket on cooldown. Cry.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I’d like to get 10,000 honourable kills this year. It’s going to take a lot of PvP, I’m currently on about 2,300, but it’s an aim at least. As, there is no way I’ll ever PvP enough to get 100,000.

Personally, when it comes down to PvP, I’m not doing it to be serious. I will defend flags, I will attack towers, sacrificing my own PvP comfort zones for the benefit of whatever is going on, but I do appreciate a laugh while it happens.

  1. I dislike PvP with a fiery passion. I am bad at it. It stresses me out. It is, as you said, torture. Ugh. I only ever PvP’d to see what it was like, and then afterwards only in the company of Lus if he made me.

    Gawd.

I actually only recently found out that there were PvP titles available with certain achievements (I had been under the impression that the only PvP titles were ones you had to earn back in Vanilla or whenever they stopped the system) and I remember thinking, “Wow, that name would be AWESOME to have!”

But not awesome enough to make me PvP for it >.>

  2. My hunter was probably one of my favorite PvP times ever. I enjoyed that I could mostly turn my brain off, go for raw damage, and usually kill at least two people before I died, which in my mind was a success. But if I was trying to pay attention, a Survival Hunter has more CC than a barrel has monkeys. You’re asleep. You over there are dazed. DoTted the rogue. That guy has to deal with my pet. Watch out, he can stun. Oops, you tripped one of my icy-no-movey traps. LOCK AND LOAD DEATH FOR ALL!

But, I can see why lots of people don’t like PvP. Players behave far more erratically than the calculated and predictable AI. Things are less planned and more reactive. I love the dynamic, mobile and unexpected. It’s why I love playing a Critty Kitty Druid. Most people I know personally, however, prefer the predefined challenge of a good raid, and the reward of coming together as a group and exceeding that challenge. I guess it all depends on what one finds fun to do and rewarding to accomplish.

    1. Hm that’s the thing, sometimes I love PvP. I’ll run around screaming about how many faces I’ve smooshed so far and so on, and other days I just want to sit down and quietly read a book.

There are arguments between PvErs and PvPers. Over, which is harder. Personally, I think PvP is harder because you are always going to have to be thinking about what’s going on around you, as opposed to bosses which become “faceroll” once you’ve downed it so many times.

  3. We should team up sometimes. I love pvping, and I am aiming for 10k honorable kills too (well got them on my warrior already). Don’t worry, at the start of it, everyone sucks. I quite enjoy myself tho :> No idea how many HK’s I’m on BUT I think I’ll grind to 10k with no problem ^^

  4. Heh, I’ve recently got the PVP bug myself. Me! It’s one of those things where being horribly bad at it doesn’t seem to, err, really get in the way :) I’ve gotta admit though, I’m having a blast…

  5. HKs are easy for hunters to get. You don’t have to get the killing blow. Any damage you do will get you an HK when the person dies. Multi-shot and when it’s safe, volley is our friend. A well placed explosive trap or snake trap is as well.

I don’t have many kills myself, but as soon as I get my helm I will be jumping back into the fray.

    Good luck.
