Announcement & Question

I suppose, really, this has been a long time coming. I’ve been burnt out on my Hunter since around Christmas, maybe even before. I quit raiding to try to enjoy the game again, I chilled out, played a few alts, did a few achievements, but I didn’t raid. Now I think it’s time for me to hang up my bow and quiver, and go back to my Shadow Priest, who will be staying Horde. The main reasons for this are currently having to be kept quiet (aside from a couple of friends I have mentioned it to) for the time being, but I won’t be playing my Hunter as my main any more. Just because I am going to be playing on Vashj for the time being, doesn’t mean I particularly like it there, aside from a handful of people, so I do plan to transfer near to Cataclysm, few months over here yet.

Priest is, of course, the class I have played the most overall. I played her for most of TBC, a few months in Wrath, and I have caught up on the theorycraft that I missed, so I know the class pretty well, but of course there’s always more to know. If you know of any Shadow Priestly blogs I haven’t included on my blogroll, please let me know so that I can add them to my reader.

This doesn’t mean that I will be quitting blogging. In fact, that’s part of the reason for this post. I’m a little unsure on what to do with the blog because I started as a Hunter blog, and named it as such. I’ve been around for a while as ‘the Lazy Sniper’ and in lieu of me rerolling, I’m wondering if perhaps I should change the name? I’ve asked a few people so far, a couple have said I should keep it as it is, but what do you guys think? Would it feel weird reading posts from a Priest on ‘the Lazy Sniper’ and think I should change to a much more general name like ‘Jae’s Tavern’ (just an example)? Part of me isn’t so fond of keeping the name when Hunter is no longer my main, but then I have to move around a lot, so I’d really like to hear what you think, please let me know!

PS. Yes, this does mean I might play around with the theme again and find a new RSS button (which I’m not so pleased about :( I love my current button). Once all of the design things have been sorted out, I will introduce my Priest properly.

  1. Sorry for the late response -I was just going to say, I’ll read whatever you write under whatever label you publish it, Jae, and I’m sure the same goes for most, if not all, your readers :)

  2. I think the Lazy Sniper still fits – always enjoyed reading any posts of yours either way, be them about priests, hunters or loremastering about in Azeroth.

I feel you on the burnout, as well. I find myself trying to motivate myself to do stuff outside of raiding (which I still enjoy, though I’ve stopped pugging as it just got to be too burdensome) and have basically parked my priest main on the backburner doing nothing but PvP. The lack of proper content is getting a bit frustrating at this point in time – maybe it’s time to roll a horde baby and have some fun on the old side of the faction gap.

  3. I think you can go either way – but go with what you feel that YOU want.

I don’t think there’s a problem keeping the name though. And I must say I really like the new banner :)

      1. What I love love LOVE about the google auto-update-blogroll is that I can just flip a blog into a category in my feed reader and boom – done! Of course, your blog will be listed in 3 places, but you don’t mind that, eh?

(Oops that was supposed to be a reply to another post, oh well. That’s fine.)

  4. Well take a look at my blog “Totem Tossing” I don’t remember the last time I wrote a post about shamans. I like the name The Lazy Sniper, does Sniper have to mean one who shoots arrows? Could you not be ->The Lazy Sniper<- of topics? Stick with what you like, and keep on posting.

  5. I did end up changing my name. It was a bit of a pain in the ass, as I also changed platforms. Now I just did it again with self-hosted, but that wasn’t a big deal because I kept the feedburner feed the same and put a massive redirect to the new stuff. Besides a little feedburner spam (doh), it transferred over without losing people due to careful redirects of feed & site front page. Ultimately, I don’t think the “move” would be a big deal because, as self-hosted with a feedburner feed, you can simply transfer whatever you need, and your readers won’t go anywhere. Why don’t you keep what you have now and sit on it until cata.

Another thing you could do is change the title slightly and keep the domain the same. Like put on your banner “The Lazy Sniper and Nonchalant Priest” or something to that effect.

And finally: the “about” page, never hurts to be very obvious and robust. Usually when I find a new website, the first thing I do is look at the about page to see “what is this page about so I can CATEGORIZE it.” You could use your about page to state that the focus of your blog is the priest with some huntering on the side, and perhaps kittens.

    1. Ooh yes, I almost forgot I need to update my about page. I’ve been quite good with categorising my blog in my about page, thanks for reminding me.

Also, as it stands, I think my current header sums up what you need to know also. The title, what my main is (dark purples indicate shadow priest alongside the image), and the caption to indicate .. at least a part of me and my gaming experience, I suppose.

As you say, if I feel the need to change it later, I can do.

  6. I’d say stick with Lazy Sniper, it’s brand recognition. Disney isn’t run by a Disney descendant but they keep the name for the public saying ‘Aha, a disney film!’ etc. A lot of people know the Lazy sniper, and it’s not THAT hunter heavy. It wouldn’t be too bigger stretch for any ranged class. I don’t think its as limited as Blessing of Fish, lets hope I don’t ever swap mains :P

Just my two copper, if changing it makes you happy at the end of the day, go for it, it’ll be worth the work if you’re better off after.

  7. I don’t know that you need to change the name. I mean, I’m still swift retribution and I rarely blog about paladins. Although I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought of going to a more generalized blog name too. I guess you should go with whatever feels most right to you.

Either way, I’m glad to hear you aren’t quitting blogging :)
