Getting Rifty With It

Well since I last blogged here I started work and cancelled my World of Warcraft subscription. I’ve spent the past few months playing all sorts of games on Steam (find me there as Jaedia – just let me know who you are if you add me), including Skyrim, Torchlight II, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and finally being able to play Animal Crossing: New Leaf and see what all the fuss is about. I’ve also been digging around in The Secret World, finally, which I adore, Guild Wars 2, and I’ve got back into Rift in the past week. Which is pretty much what I want to talk about today.

I haven’t played Rift properly since the couple of months back at launch so my Mage has been sat there all level 50, abandoned and guildless. I had the urge to go play around the other night so I logged in, finally sent her off to one of the new Storm Legion zones and tried to remember how to kill things with magic. I died a bit, switched to a Necro spec, tried again. The next night I joined a huge guild and discovered all of my pets abilities were turned off – no wonder I’d kept dying the previous night!

I know Storm Legion has been out for over a year now, but for me this is the discovery of a new expansion. My first outside of WoW. It’s the nostalgia of a game I loved a long time ago combined with new shininess and the excitement of all of the things I want to do. I’m already planning to buy credits because I actually feel as though the currency system is fair for the game. I basically want to unlock the expansion souls and have my eye on a mount or two. Plus I’m considering patron status, which is really handy. The 40% increased experience has been fantastic.

Then there is the achievement system which I already know I adore, and artifact collections. And now we have dimensions. I can’t wait to create something epic. I’m going to start by entering Dream Dimension Celebration. I know I won’t win, I don’t have the platinum or the patience to create the awesome things other dimension designers will be putting together for this but it’s going to be a lot of fun to see what I can do, and just for entering you get a title, which is very cool.

I would like to gear my Mage up a little at 60 but right now my laptop won’t run well enough in dungeons for me to be able to react in time. However, it’s looking highly likely that I might be getting a PC capable of running new MMOs, already released and future, for birthmas (it’s a word, trust me), so that’s very exciting! We shall see where the future takes us.

I’m playing Jaedia on the EU Zaviel shard. If you’re about, do say hello!

PS. I would like to thank the Wardrobe feature for allowing me to not look like a female superhero.

We couldn't find Wonder Woman, so she'll have to do
We couldn’t find Wonder Woman, so she’ll have to do. To the Rifts!

PPS. I’m dying to pick FFXIV back up since Dan started playing. Figure it’ll run a little better now the main rush of people will have died down. If not, new PC soon™! *bounce*
