20 Days of Warcraft – IRL Race/Class

Day 9 – Which race/class combination are you most like in RL?

Well, I want to say Night Elf Mage but reeeally, no. Tauren Druid.

Night Elves are tall, mysterious, beautiful, and… blue. Okay, so we can’t have everything, but Elves are cool, kay? And I’d rather be a Night Elf than a Blood Elf if we’re talking IRL land here. Mages are great cooks, they can turn people into different animals, set things on fire just by thinking about it, quick transportation what’s not to love?

If I’m honest though, that’s what I’d like to be. The question is which are you ‘most like’, and so I say Tauren Druid. No, I’m not a giant bipedal cow, or hairy, but I’m not thin and slender, so body size I’d say that makes the most sense.. except for the cow part. I couldn’t be a Dwarf because I’m not short. Plus, I’m fairly gentle in nature, so the other Horde races don’t suit me much either. That also rules out Human.

I say Druid because, well, I wouldn’t be too good with weapons, I think the elements would hate me, but I do like nature. Whilst I can’t turn into a bear or a cat on a whim, Druid seems to fit the most. Plus I always wanted to be a cat when I was a kid (I don’t know either).

20 Days of Warcraft – Guild Names

Day 8 – Favourite guild name you’ve come across?

I’m going to have to say that I love a funny name, or a good reference. I get bored of all the latin and single word guild names, and so I present my two favourite guild names:

  • Pining for the Fjords
  • Pretentious Latin Name

Knowing that Pining for the Fjords was taken on Vashj, because that’s where I stole it from, I had to make this guild! So I made it as my bank guild on Terenas.. however, it’s so good I use it for my guild over there. I’ve always been a big Monty Python freak and I absolutely adore this reference!

Pretentious Latin Name I spotted on Terenas, a fair while before Single Abstract Noun came to be, in fact. They’re both equally as funny, really, I just saw Pretentious Latin Name first. I don’t really need to explain why it’s funny, do I?

20 Days of Warcraft – Vanity Pets

Day 7 – Favourite companion non-combat pet?

Oh this is an easy one! Or.. is it. Hmm. I’ve been a big pet collector for quite a long time and you would think I had a favourite wouldn’t you?

Well, generally speaking, my favourite vanity pet varies. You’ve seen my collection haven’t you? I’ve worked damn hard on it and I love a lot of my pets, so much that I went and named my blog after my pet collecting .. thing. I do believe I wrote a post about my vanity pets around the same time last year, when Tam offered around a bit of syphilis. Here if you’re interested in my thoughts on the appeal of vanity pets, though I would change my top 3 now, in this order:

  1. Phoenix Hatchling
  2. Wind Rider Cub
  3. Baby Blizzard Bear

Though, bare in mind, there will be a bunch of new pets coming up soon and that might very well change in the next year.. again.

You know what guys, it’s not easy to beef up a post answering a question that you know the answer to!

20 Days of Warcraft – Dungeons

Day 6 – Favourite dungeon and why?

First off, sorry this is a tad late. Scratch that, I’m not at all sorry! I’m enjoying this little blog project immensely, but the Shattering happened and then we had nice pizzas and watched a movie. You understand. And this will run over into the Cataclysm release, in which time it will be pushed back further, but don’t worry, I’ma finish.

So, I looked at this question and a few came to mind: Ulduar, Shadow Labrynth, Caverns of Time: Durnholde, Black Temple.

SLabs (as we lovingly call it) was probably the first level 70 instance I did all the way through. I remember how terrified I was of Murmur (shutup, like you weren’t) and how difficult we found it. The heroic version was just tough enough, and I loved it. Not entirely sure why, I just did. I suppose fond memories or some such lark.

Black Temple was the raid I progressed in with my TBC guild, Supreme. I can remember having a lot of fun, people being stupid and all that, and the bosses were complicated and fun. There was such a high sense of accomplishment every time we killed a boss, the only thing I regretted was missing the first Illidan kill – my internet was off for about a month at that time. However, I did kill Illidan plenty of times and loved the fight.

Ulduar, I felt, was possibly the perfect instance for people who wanted fun hardmode encounters and of course, us achievement whores. There were plenty of different ways to activate hardmodes and I loved that because it gave the raid a nice varied feel to it. And sooo many achievements which I still need to go back and do. It was brilliant!

Caverns of Time: Durnholde I think I loved so much because you walk in and oh! Look! My Blood Elf is a human, haha look how stupid the cow looks as a human haha. And you got to fight with Thrall. Yay! It wasn’t until Wrath when I levelled my Death Knight that I discovered that some Alliance races, not including humans because honestly derp, didn’t change. I was quite disappointed, that was always the best bit of Caverns of Time for me – seeing what the hell your character would look like if it was human. So yeah, that one.

20 Days of Warcraft – Names

Day 5 – The meaning behind your mains name?

I fear this will be a reasonably short post today. I don’t think I have much to say or any images to back it up. Let’s see.

I have written a post previously about how I choose my characters names. In which, I quote:

One way to name a character is to just throw a jumble of letters together and see if they sound okay. This is how I named a lot of my characters, including Jaedia and Seithir. You have to be fairly sensible with this one because you could end up with a character name that sounds ridiculous, however, there is less likelihood of any name you decide on being taken.

See, originally, Seithir was a name I had chosen for my Troll Shaman. I threw the letters together, pronounced them in my head as “Sigh-thar” (you would be surprised how many people have said they can’t pronounce my name) though really, it’s not entirely important, and from there decided it was a good name. There is no more meaning behind it than that. I got the Shaman to level 7 and gave up. I didn’t like the Troll race much, and I really struggled with the Shaman class until very, very recently. So, when I chose to make a Blood Elf Priest instead of the Undead one I had levelled to 22 already, I thought Seithir suited her a lot better than the Troll Shaman. Thus, my main became known as Seithir.

Oh and what do you know, an image of my Priest from around level 20ish! That’s an old one :)

20 Days of Warcraft – Emotes

Day 4 – Favourite Emote and the best situation to use it in.

Oh! Oh! Me! Pick me! I know this one!

There are so many emotes I love, but today I know the answer, unlike yesterday.. I’m still wondering whether I should change my answer to Thrall for favourite NPC.. but anyway, I’m not telling you quite yet. First I need to blather on about some things that aren’t necessarily my favourite emotes but are still awesome and need to be mentioned.

Everybody loves a good /dance. When you’re bored, waiting for a boss pull during tactics *cough* I mean afk breaks, of course, hanging around in cities chatting, or wherever your preferred place to dance might be, well, it’s fun. I’ve spent the entirety of Wrath wondering where the hell these new dances we were promised have got to, because as aforementioned, I primarily play Blood Elves. You’ve seen their dance right? Yeah. No. I hate it. Especially since this video (which you may even remember. See: 2:15):

However, you can’t deny me a good /dance, especially on any other race I play. Female Tauren and Draenei dances are great!

Anyway, getting every earworm under the sun (excluding It’s Not Unusual) in one video really was one feat – moving on.

You know what else I love? /spit. No, not in the dick way. I pretty much only use it on Dan. Aren’t I a lovely girlfriend? I can’t really be arsed with terms of endearment ingame when he’s sat right across from me, so instead we often pretend we hate each other instead. Pretty sure we’ve weirded out a few pugs in time with our fake arguments.. When people actually use /spit in PvP and to generally be twats, rather than as a joke, then I hate it. Sadly, it will always be remembered for that.

The winner for me though: /pat. So good we named a guild after it! I know, I know, the rest of you have picked /hug, /wave, all the lovely things and I’ve gone for the second most patronising emote in the game. I think it is just the perfect emote to convey it’s tiny little patronising message and it is brilliant – especially when somebody is being a big lootwhore. Picture it:

  1. [Lootwhore]: FFS!! My trinket didn’t drop again!! I’m only one piece off full BIS FFS!
  2. [Yourself]: /pat.

See? See?! Perfect.

20 Days of Warcraft – NPCs

Day 3 of the 20 Days of Warcraft leads us onto the question: Day 3 – Favourite NPC?

*stretches collar* nngh. The first thing I think when I look at this question is really: But there are so bloody many of them, why should I have to pick just one? Then I thought it best to tackle the question from a different angle, because there really are a lot of NPCs. What is it that makes me like an NPC? That cleared it up for me a little bit. I love the leaders, near enough, they’re all nice and heroic, fine, but they don’t make me smile. A good NPC should do that for me. So, I had a think, and I’m sure I’ve missed a fair few, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind.

First of all, I would like to give my kudos to Saurfang. Whilst he is not my favourite, he is Goddamn awesome. Not only has he managed to make his way up to Chuck Norris status, but he is one of the greatest father figures in this game. The way he believed in his son so strongly, and then grieved him so stoicly was amazing. Plus, that conversation he had with Garrosh in Warsong Hold was simply brilliant.

Then I had to come up with a list:

  • Narain Soothfancy – The Gnome in Tanaris who gives you quests for the AQ chain.
  • Spirit of Azuregos – Another one from the AQ chain, if you’ve ever seen his dialogue with you, you would definitely understand.
  • Minigob Manabonk – Oh, c’mon, this Gnome turns you into a sheep! BOUNCING SHEEP!
  • Bessy – You know the ghost cow in Netherstorm? Shutup, she’s awesome.
  • Crunchy – Same as above! I’ve never squeed quite so much as when Crunchy eats the tickbirds.

Okay, so now that we’ve established that I’m clearly obsessed with cute things.. I guess I have to pick one. You know what? Narain Soothfancy actually had me in stitches, you should check the AQ chain quest text sometime, because it really made me laugh. I don’t usually like Gnomes very much but this one is brilliant. No doubt, now that I’ve said that, I’m going to think of somebody even better.

I can tell you my least favourite though. This bastard must have been my first ever escort quest and for some reason I’ve always felt like he’s extra slow.. probably that long ass walk he does without being attacked. Annoying!

20 Days of Warcraft – Race

Day 2 of the 20 Days of Warcraft brings the question: Day 2 – Favourite race and why?

This one is a little bit easier for me than yesterday’s question because I am very, very fussy about my characters. They have to be female, I don’t feel right playing male characters, and they have to be pretty (shutup, I’m playing with pixels, I’m allowed to be a little bit self-indulgent, kay?).

Right from the bat, I’m going to exclude Orcs, Trolls, Undeads, Dwarves, and Gnomes. Sorry but they really aren’t my thing, feel almost as weird playing those races as I do playing male characters. However, I like Horde and Alliance about the same, so humour me. Also, I don’t pay attention to racials.

Tauren I find awesome. Whilst I don’t play them, male Tauren are brilliant. To me, they are big fluffy cows with the best dance in the world, and they do the most hilarious wiggling thing when AFKing on a drake. Okay, it’s hilarious if you’re a bit sleep stoned. The females, whilst not my favourite race, are just so darn cute. I made my female Tauren Druid back in TBC, and while I didn’t like the race much when I started, and she still hasn’t reached 80, I did eventually fall in love with her a little bit. Cows are love!

Humans are a strange one for me because whilst they aren’t my favourite, I have my ups and downs with them. Sometimes, I absolutely love them. Sometimes I find them boring. I love my Human Warrior, but everything else seems to end up Night Elf or Draenei. We’ll get there in the end, hey?

Night Elves were my first love. I started playing WoW a few months before the release of TBC, back towards the end of vanilla. At this point, I was new to gaming and I knew I liked Elves because I was a big Lord of the Rings fangirl. The problem was, my then boyfriend and our mutual friend were playing on Vashj as Horde and I had the choice of starting this game that was completely foreign to me on my own, or following them on Horde. The problem was, I hated every race the Horde had to offer and ended up settling for an Undead because it was the most “normal”, but honestly, if I could, I would have been a Night Elf Hunter at the beginning. I did the starter zone quests so many times I could do them from muscle memory in the end.. I loved them – and their mounts!

Draenei have quite recently been my favourite race. Originally I thought they were weird, and honestly, they didn’t grow on me until some point in Wrath when I wanted to level an Alliance Hunter. I refused to play Dwarf which left Night Elf or Draenei, and at this point, I did pick the better racials. I fell in love with the class while levelling her, and alongside it, I fell in love with the race. They weren’t skinny like Blood Elves, they have a much better dance, and they have the best hairstyles in the game. I will stick by that, there are several Draenei hairstyles that look great. I just love their curves.

Blood Elf is going to have to be my number one. I’m a Hordie at heart, though I like Alliance just as much, I feel much more comfortable around the Horde after 5 years of playing the game as a Hordie. I do prefer Blood Elves to Night Elves, and their twizzly-jump is just brilliant. They are the race I play the most, admittedly because they’re the only Horde race I really like. And so, even though their skinniness, and repetitiveness (after playing so damn many of them) does bore me to death sometimes, Blood Elves have to be my favourite race. Girls though, I find Melfs a bit creepy!

20 Days of Warcraft – Class

When I was checking my reader today, I noticed 4 separate posts with the same title of this post. That can only mean one thing: Meme time!!

The most discernible origin seems to be Specced For Drama, though she admits that she didn’t start the meme, I didn’t spot it on the other site she linked to, so she gets my link love. The other people I’ve seen taking part are Pilfkin, Issy, Jakkru, and Sven. Join in, it should be fun!

The first question is: Day 1 – Favourite class and why?

You know what, some people are able to snap their fingers and tell you what their favourite class is in the drop of a hat. Whether it’s a class they level a lot, one they levelled first, their current main, whatever. They know. I’m not entirely sure I do.

My first class was a Warlock. I wanted a magical class, and I had been told that Warlocks even got pets! Upon hearing that Warlocks were the only magical class with pets (and also very overpowered, I was told – classic now, we’re talking), I knew that was my class. But I just didn’t feel it. It took me forever to get to 60, months, by the time I was there, everybody else was gearing up for Karazhan. When I finally made it to 70, I joined a guild called HordeCore, raided with them for 2 months, sucked at my class and finally gave up on trying to like it. I did like Destruction in Wrath, though I’m not sure what I think of the class now. We’ll see. Either way, it’s not my favourite class.

After the Warlock, going on the knowledge that groups were always looking for a healer as their last spot, I decided I’d level a Blood Elf Priest to heal. I levelled her as Shadow, but I healed in instances anyway and I didn’t do too bad a job if I say so myself. I had a lot of fun levelling her and she became my new main. I also got a little hooked on Shadow, recruited as Shadow, and yeah.. I haven’t really healed on her since. She was my main for most of TBC, and parts of Wrath, even now. My Shadow Priest is definitely a strong contender for favourite class but I do have fickle moments. I get bored of the same thing all the time.

For a while in Wrath, I played the Hunter class as my main. It was the best thing sinced sliced bread suddenly, I sucked at everything else. Whilst there is no danger of it now, I’ve grown so bored of it, and the changes have scared me away, it was without a doubt my favourite class. Until I rerolled back to my Priest a few months ago.

I’ve also enjoyed playing my Ret Paladin and my Frost Death Knight an awful lot, but I like to keep them as alts. See, whilst Shadow Priest remains my main, I enjoy the class a lot and honestly I’ve achieved so much on her that it would suck a little to have to start over on another character and not get anywhere near as far, I also like to keep fun alts on the sides. I try not to reroll to them, but for me, it keeps the game fresh to have a lot of options.

As to why, I love the versatility and survivability of Shadow Priests. With my dual spec, I can be a healer on the side. If the group is going badly and the healer is struggling, I can quickly throw a heal or two around to help out a bit, and I have found this to be more than helpful on several occasions. I can Fade, Disperse, Shield myself, all sorts, and survive all kinds of crap. In the meantime, holding down a rotation that for me has always been interesting, having to time when to put up DoTs, when it’s safe to cast Mind Blast, whether to use Shadow Word: Death, and so on. These days, it feels a little bit simplistic, but in TBC it was quite a complicated spell priority! I guess I find it a nice middle ground to the one-button-spammy-specs, which have become less so now but back in TBC it was quite frequent, and the overly complicated, Destruction/Demonology Warlock these days, anyone?

What’s your favourite class, and why?
