That New Content Feeling

Patch 4.3 couldn’t have come at a better time. With NaNoWriMo over and done with on Tuesday and my most recent book review written and published (that’s important because it took me a few hours to get right), I logged into my Priest happily to play around with void storage and do a few of the new 5 mans with the manface. Aren’t they great? While I was waiting, I got myself a Glyph of Shadow, which is awesome, and played around on my new horse. I was accused in guild of liking boys because I like the Tyrael’s Charger but I of course slapped that down with a great big, “Yes, I do like boys, and why does it matter?” And then continued to enjoy my pony.

The new instances gave me a distinctly familiar feeling. I’m awful at remembering the names because it has been so many months, but the first instance reminded me of one of the mid-level instances in Rift, the last part reminded me of the desert zone, and the third one reminded me of one of the later Rift instances. No, not being all, “They clearly copied Rift!” Just an observation. I loved them. They’re new content with new gear and the storyline is interesting. What’s not to love? Plus that second one has really made me appreciate Night Elf Shadow Priests…

And something seems a little off about Tyrande…

And how could I not include this one? Possibly my favourite of the new bosses and it looks freaking cool.

We did a few with the same Rogue and healer who we met in a pug and were both competent and friendly and that’s a pretty rare event. It’s always nice when you do get those kinds of pugs. I may have awwwed a little when the healer left with, “Nice to meet you.” I thought that was a little adorable.

I got myself a new wand, finally netting myself Cataclysmically Epic after a year.. though it did put my achievement points back into the 5s! And my first pair of dropped non-blue shoulders, and a helm, 2 rings, an offhand, and the tier 12 chest, getting me upto 369 ilvl from 361. I’ll be good for the raid finder in no time! Then today I picked up the staff from the last instance so I can finally use Anathema *squee* (and knock my ilvl upto 370 but that’s less important, right?). *strokes the pretty*

After, we ran through Black Temple with a friend and another guildy (the non-douchey variety, hooray), not only did I gain about 1,000 gold from that run but it was fun. We just finished a little later than hoped but oh well. I transmogged my gear fully and went off to bed.

I am absolutely in love with this set. I never got the chance to wear tier 4 when it was current because I was a Tailoring Shadow Priest *grumbles* and for those of you who weren’t around in Burning Crusade, the Shadoweave set (shoulders, chest, and boots) you made with tailoring was best in slot until tier 6. Obviously that’s just the shoulders but I do also have the robe in void storage.

How are you enjoying the new content? Or are you perhaps disappointed thus far?

20 Days of Warcraft – Dungeons

Day 6 – Favourite dungeon and why?

First off, sorry this is a tad late. Scratch that, I’m not at all sorry! I’m enjoying this little blog project immensely, but the Shattering happened and then we had nice pizzas and watched a movie. You understand. And this will run over into the Cataclysm release, in which time it will be pushed back further, but don’t worry, I’ma finish.

So, I looked at this question and a few came to mind: Ulduar, Shadow Labrynth, Caverns of Time: Durnholde, Black Temple.

SLabs (as we lovingly call it) was probably the first level 70 instance I did all the way through. I remember how terrified I was of Murmur (shutup, like you weren’t) and how difficult we found it. The heroic version was just tough enough, and I loved it. Not entirely sure why, I just did. I suppose fond memories or some such lark.

Black Temple was the raid I progressed in with my TBC guild, Supreme. I can remember having a lot of fun, people being stupid and all that, and the bosses were complicated and fun. There was such a high sense of accomplishment every time we killed a boss, the only thing I regretted was missing the first Illidan kill – my internet was off for about a month at that time. However, I did kill Illidan plenty of times and loved the fight.

Ulduar, I felt, was possibly the perfect instance for people who wanted fun hardmode encounters and of course, us achievement whores. There were plenty of different ways to activate hardmodes and I loved that because it gave the raid a nice varied feel to it. And sooo many achievements which I still need to go back and do. It was brilliant!

Caverns of Time: Durnholde I think I loved so much because you walk in and oh! Look! My Blood Elf is a human, haha look how stupid the cow looks as a human haha. And you got to fight with Thrall. Yay! It wasn’t until Wrath when I levelled my Death Knight that I discovered that some Alliance races, not including humans because honestly derp, didn’t change. I was quite disappointed, that was always the best bit of Caverns of Time for me – seeing what the hell your character would look like if it was human. So yeah, that one.

How to Survive a Pug

Run AwayWhether good or bad, pugs can be a little nightmarish, and sometimes you don’t have any choice but to join them to get whatever you need to get done.. done. However, there are things you can do to speed them up a bit and make them a little more bearable.

  • Joke with people, if things are going wrong, if there’s a nice atmosphere between the group they don’t seem quite so bad.
  • If you try to talk to people but they proceed to glare and shout SWE?! Then just keep quiet and carry on with the points below.
  • Pay full attention, do as much damage as you can, use your wolf, your best bullets/arrows, and it will go a lot faster. Plus seeing that you’ve done 40% of the group’s damage is always nice.
  • Misdirect the tank, a lot, especially before you AoE, misdirect the tank, multi shot the pack they have pulled, and volley.
  • Set the tank as your focus to make this go faster.
  • Have one finger over feign incase of fail/overaggro <-IMPORTANT! If the group wipes, in theory, you can stay alive. If you’re an engineer, attempt to resurrect the healer for a little extra speed. If they don’t try to resurrect everybody else if the jump cables actually work, this is normal, leave them to it.
  • Of course, once in a while you run into a good pug, people who know how to play the classes they’re playing, funny, makes it feel a lot faster and smoother. These are very rare but they exist.

If the above tips don’t work and it’s still a wipefest, with people screaming “you noob” on every breath, the tank is pretty much auto attacking for threat and the healer is playing Peggle with full mana… RUN THE FUCK AWAY.

Icecrown Citadel – The Frozen Halls (5 man)

Bone GuyAs well as the usual 10 and 25 player raid instances, Blizzard have announced the new 5 player dungeon, The Frozen Halls (source). There will be a normal version which drops 219 iLevel gear and a heroic version which drops 232 iLevel gear, the same as Trial of the Crusader 10 player. They have said players will follow Jaina Proudmoore and Lady Sylvanas through the dungeon to complete an epic quest to infiltrate the Citadel from an alternative entrance, depending on your faction of course.

The dungeon spans across 3 wings, which on heroic will have separate lockouts. The first wing is called The Forge of Souls, you have to complete this to be able to unlock the Pit of Saron, which then unlocks The Hall of Reflections, where you meet Falric and Marwyn, Arthas’s captains in life, and finally.. Arthas himself. Jaina wanting to find some remaining humanity in Arthas, and Sylvanas, well, she wants to bitch slap him for what he did to her. I’m going to have to do this  dungeon both on my Horde and Alliance just to see the awesome lore from both sides!

With Arthas being in the 5 man, I can’t imagine him not being in the raid instance, so the last boss in Icecrown Citadel is either going to be Kael’thas himself “Tempest Keep and Magister’s Terrace were merely a setback!” Except now he’s Arthas’s gimp. Or the more serious, Arthas won’t die in The Frozen Halls. Perhaps we’ll see another shade boss, shade of Ner’zhul. Also, if one of the bosses doesn’t drop a Frostwyrm mount I’m going to be a little disappointed.. ooh, maybe the quest line gives a reward of “Lil KT“!
