The State of the Menagerie: Doo DoDo DoDoDoDoDo DoDooo

It’s time to tell you about the state of my menagerie. I’m always on a quest to find more cute, fluffy types in whatever games I’m playing and I’ve picked up a few things in the past couple of weeks.

First, I’d like to show off my Green Quaggan Backpack! While technically not a minipet, a mount, or even a combat pet, it is adorable and I’ve wanted one since I first spotted it in the gemstore. I’d actually forgotten about it until it showed up in my mailbox. It was a gift for people who bought gems in December with real world dosh. I loves it. It’s even cuter than the blue one in the gem store.

Next, I’ll do the mini-pets. Starting with my Plush Gryphon. I’ve been working really hard since getting my PC to complete the Wintersday achievements in time to get this little guy because he’s so freaking cute I needed him. Finally picked him up the other night without having to complete the jumping puzzle – which I tried for hours and hours, I swear – or the 15 rounds of Snowball Mayhem which was fun but it took up so much time.. My favourite was definitely Toypocalypse. I ran it one night with some guildies and the next I pugged it to finish things off. So much fun.

Onwards to FFXIV where I upgraded to the collector’s edition in the past week, thanks to a very generous pair of grandparents. I’ve wanted the Baby Behemoth since I first spied him at launch and gave him the name ‘Pig in a Wig’. I adore the way he playfully bounces around, while idle and while running after your character. Super cute!

And finally, the mounts. The Coeurl is the mount you receive from the collector’s edition of FFXIV and I have a lot of love for it. It looks amazing and the music that plays while you’re mounted on it is so pretty. I had to unlock my Chocobo first however…

Which I finally got last night! He’s called Chip. And my word do you have to work for him! You have to complete a looong story quest line which has you run 3 dungeons and a kind of mini-dungeon, as well as hopping all over the place checking out the different Grand Companies and so on. Then, once you’ve chosen a Grand Company, you have to grind 2,000 company seal which doesn’t take as long as it might sound but seriously, it’s a relief when the achievement finally pops up and he plods over to you with a little, “Kweh!” And I love the full song that plays while you’re running around on your chocobo. It’s so happy and cheerful.

What is the state of your menageries like? Fresh straw, I hope!

The Fresh Prince of Eorzea

FFXIV is getting most of my attention right now, mostly because it’s the one game I have actively subscribed to, but also because it feels so different to the games that I usually play.

At launch, Ravven gifted me her spare copy of the game (for which I am still eternally grateful) and I installed and loaded in. I immediately fell in love. The game is gorgeous, the music is beautiful, I can play a cat-girl, there’s much cute in moogles and chocobos, it’s just.. something else. It was my very first Final Fantasy experience and perhaps my first non-generic fantasy MMO experience as well. There is a lot that isn’t so different to your usual MMO, and there is a lot that feels incredibly grindy, but what it does well, it does really well.

Sadly, at this time I didn’t have Dragon and I could barely play. I made it to somewhere around level 16 before being constantly killed by mobs that wouldn’t load which became frustrating, and the choppiness of the game in general while running around on 3fps just became unbearable. So I walked away. Saddened that I had to leave Eorzea so early.

Along Comes A Dragon

But then a few months later my PC arrived and the first thing I did, near enough, was install FFXIV, subscribe, and start a new character on Psyche‘s server, Odin EU. She is pretty much the same as my first character but the hair’s more red than pink (now that I could see the colours properly), and already I’ve near enough caught up to where my first character got to in just a couple of days. Perhaps because I knew how to play and which paths to take, or perhaps because the gameplay is so much smoother now.

My aim is to upgrade my game to the collector’s edition the moment I can afford it because I desperately want to get my hands on the Coeurl mount and the baby Behemoth (aka Pig in a Wig), which is to be expected really when you consider my blog’s name. I just adore the minipets in this game so very much. I’ve been coming across some adorable little guys and plan to go all out when I’ve levelled a bit more. To start with, I bought a baby chocobo from the vendor in Ul’dah because I was getting lonely without a companion. True story. But eventually I shall have an army of adorable!

I shall also be aiming to level Black Mage, methinks. My “thing” in MMOs is usually a bursty mage type, or a ranger type. I decided to go with the mage in FFXIV and so I’ll get my Thurmy up to level 30, then I’ll level Archer to 15, and then I’ll pew like a crazy lady. Aw yeah. :D

I also received my first player commendation last night! Not long before I logged for the night I ran my first guildhest. Figured I might as well unlock the levee system and do my first of both, so I queued up and had a smooth little group and when I left I had a commendation. I wasn’t aware this was a thing so with a little searching I found out that at the end of a Duty, if you queued up solo you can choose to give out player commendations for people who play well, are friendly, and so on. One per group. Basically an incentive to not be a dick when using the group finder. I wish I’d known this before leaving because I didn’t get the pop up option to give any out but it was nice to be acknowledged! I presume it’s because I actually spoke as it was literally just kill a couple of packs and then a boss, but it’s still a nice feeling. With further research, I discovered there are rewards and and and…

Princely Barding

NEED.

So that’s that. Do beware, however, that if you group with me, I am going a little screenshot crazy right now because I’m enjoying how pretty everything is.

Anyway, I’m off to Eorzea. Laters taters!

GW2: All Of The Squee

I’ve been working on a blog post. It’s nothing major it’s just ended up being longer than I expected and amongst a few days of work I’ve not quite gotten around to finishing it. However. Pets. In Guild Wars 2. I. Can’t. Not. Squee. At. You!!

I popped on Dulfy today to see the new stuff and there are new minis for Wintersday. So I’m scrolling down the page, thinking that the helms are rather cool but perhaps not my thing and: OH MY GOSH! That’s a beagle puppy. FAWN. ARHGJAKCKAL ARCTIC FOX! …Dolyak with a present on his back. *breaks* ♥ So yeah. My gem wallet may have suddenly increased by 800 gems. Ahem. I still need to work on the Dolyak because I didn’t want to spend too much and I barely have any gold ingame (7g by the time I logged out today) and the exchange rate is absolutely terrible right now but it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

Here they are in all of their adorableness:

And now you know what that strange high pitch squeeling sound you heard on the wind earlier today was. Several times.

Which one’s your favourite?

Back!

Hey guys, The Lazy Sniper has been down for a while due to server switching, huge domain issues, and having to rush off for real life stuff for a couple of weeks. If you’ve been following me here (clicky, clicky) or on Twitter, you probably know the drill. Seeing as lazy-sniper.com became locked (unless I paid my previous host an extortionate amount of money.. yeah no thanks), it was pointed out to me that perhaps this was a brilliant time to finally go through that name change I’d considered back when I switched from my Hunter to my Shadow Priest. After a heck of a lot of umming and ahhing and not actually being in front of a PC, I finally decided on ‘Jaedia’s Menagerie’. Why? Because I’m a massive pet collecting freak. And mounts too.

The theme stays, I just need to fiddle around with the header a little.. maybe, and work out how to get all of my images pointing to the right URL so that my pages don’t look so, well, dead. Yes, I am aware that almost all of my images are broken aside from the 2 I have manually fixed (the header and the signature). So update any bookmarks or links you may have, you’ve got the name and you can link to the following:

  • menagerie.jaedia.net

Sorry for such a long hiatus! It was really out of my hands, but I’m back now. My blogging may be a little lax at the moment during the pre-expansion lull (yes, I’ve hit that, but I’m still playing a little), however, I am still here, and I will still be blogging. Feel free to spread the word if you like about the name and url change.

Update: I completely forgot to mention RSS feed, I have redirected the old feed to the new address (thank you for reminding me, Poneria!), so hopefully you won’t have to change your feed address unless you were using the default feed. Feedburner won’t need to be changed though, that is still:
