Jae Goes A’Gearing

I had a lot of fun writing about my WoW updates last week so I thought I’d do another about my Mage since dinging 90!

I so have a little girl crush on Wrathion *licks*

The first thing I did was made sure she had all the craftables available.. apart from the Jewelcrafting neck and rings because I always seem to replace them uber fast, though I regretted that a few days later when I’d still had no luck with a ring and ended up crafting one and using justice points to buy another! I’d bought the Inscription offhand and crafted the two epics on my Priest for her, though Dan wanted to send me a gift of the same gloves so I equipped his and sold the ones I made for 1900g which is a nice little boost towards the Brelly Yak I’m saving for!

Next I believe I did some dailies with Dan.. no! I tell a lie, a bunch of us went to Icecrown 25 for Rippur’s legendary quest and transmog. We all hopped on Mumble and had a laugh. Rip got a fair bit done for his quest which was awesome, I got a handful of weapons and 3 tokens towards the normal mode Mage tier 10. It was a good night. So good then we went off and did Sunwell, where I got that gorgeous book offhand, and Black Temple afterwards. Funtimes!

Friday I finally had the chance to start doing some gearing and popped into a few heroics. I got a couple of upgrades that evening (I think? Or was that Thursday?), and more fun was had. I believe we also did Mogushan Vaults LFR on Friday as well which is where I tested out Arcane, got a trinket, flailed about looking for decent guides and blogs and such for Mage advice, and a very wise Mage on Twitter reminded me that so long as you’re having fun that’s all that matters, damage is still high anyway. So yeah, fuck Arcane, I’m staying Frost. It’s a little higher than Fire at the moment and a lot of fun. Arcane’s too.. stand still and spam this for my liking. *yawn*

Saturday I suddenly remembered it was Saturday and tried to get the Saturdayist or whatever it’s called and also hoped for some nommy loots in the little boxes. There were 3 or 4 of us in rotation and we did 8 scenarios towards the guild goal which was awesome, and had a good chat on Mumble with Steve and a newer guildy who is turning out to be a fun person. I like her. Didn’t get much gear doing random scenarios but lots of achievements, a pair of 463 ilvl bracers and I’m just 3 off the Saturday achievement now which I can specific another Saturday.

Shortly after this one was taken, those two started pressing space bar. A lot. Hilarious!

I believe it was also Saturday when I was in Ironforge (it’s been pointed out to me that Ironforge is a much nicer place to chill and do auctions than Stormwind because “portal plz mage” gets really annoying) and a Gnome started waving at me! This is nothing new. Gnomes wave at me quite often so I smiled at it and then I was asked if I was Jaedia from Twitter! ‘Scuse my excitement but this was my first CRZ meeting with anybody. It turned out to be Nev from AH Addict and we had a nice little chat. /wave! :D

I spent a lot of Sunday finishing off Dread Wastes to make sure I’d unlocked all of the Klaxxi dailies and rep I could while queuing for specific dungeons, I’d found myself a little unlucky the previous few days so decided as I was valor capped it’d be best if I queued for dungeons that I could actually get drops from. By the end of the night I was 1 ilvl off being able to do Heart of Fear and ToeS LFR (thanks Love Dungeon!), so today I specifically queued for a few more and got myself a hat! So Dan and myself pootled off and did the first part of HoF. I still haven’t done the rest of LFR because we spent the evening doing Naxx 25 with a few of us, as well as Sarth 3D 25, Malygos 25 and a little later myself and Kait did Trial 10 man. Again, a lot of fun and I picked up soo many shinies my bank is crying! Here’s my new transmog as a result:

I’m really happy with it! I was running around in full tier 6 before because I’d struggled to come up with something unique but this works for me. It’s a nice mix of all sorts and yeah – yay! I’ve put in a lot of effort to gear this fast (the joys of being unemployed?) and I’m really pleased with how far little Jae has come in such a short time. She’s about ready to start joining in with guild raids! Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me for the rest of LFR tomorrow. Now I’m off to level a panda Rogue for a little project which I may talk about another time. :3

*Small Wave*

‘Ello :) So it’s been pretty quiet around the menagerie the past couple of months, eh? Those of you who still follow me on twitter and over at The Rant Page will probably know by now that I resubbed to WoW, but don’t worry, The Rant Page will still be my main blog. The main details of my unsubbing from Rift and subsequent resubbing to WoW are in my post here, if you’d like to know, but I’m not going to be repeating myself because the TLDR of it is that I wasn’t having enough fun and decided to see what was going on in WoW, and honestly, is it really that important?

I wasn’t sure whether I should pop back over here and say hello while I’m playing, or whether I should leave it be and just let my WoW blog lie, but I don’t see the harm. So for now, I’m cleaning off the cobwebs. I’ve updated the links in my sidebar blogroll, and I’ve been trying to sort out my out of date plugins, but for some reason I have to do it all manually so it’s proved to be a struggle and some I just can’t update because the automatic updates won’t work and a fair few have gone premium. So.. if plugins are missing, it’s because I’m too lazy to find new ones to replace them and tough!

As for what brought me back, not only do I get to play with Mr Ryyu, the boy shaped one, and some other friends (even the ones I just chat to on Real ID from time to time), but there is more than enough to do. The thing that really turned my head, if I’m being honest, is the WoW Hunter class. I adore Hunters, and I really enjoyed Ranger/Marksman in Rift, it felt comfortable, but nothing feels to me quite like the WoW Hunter, so as I don’t have £30 lying around for Fae’s transfer, a new Fae is born on Vashj for the purposes of fun. She was going to be a Goblin but at the last minute turned into a Blood Elf. Well.. what do you know? Yes I’m terrible, shutup, I’m not even particularly in love with Blood Elves I just didn’t want to be short or hairy. We all know that Draenei are the superior race, after all ;) *cough* But yes, I may blog a little about her antics. She’s already level 18 with a handful of rare pets.

Aside from Huntering, I’m also playing my Priest a fair bit. Though I say I missed the Hunter class, I’m not rerolling this time. Seithir is my main, and I doubt that will change. I have done and collected a heck of a lot on her and I will always be slightly attached. I’ve been gearing her up in heroics whilst farming Justice Points for my Hunter’s (and later on, Shaman’s) heirlooms. I don’t want to raid, and I don’t plan to or need to either. Zul’Gurub is awesome! Though not so fond of Zul’Aman.. that’s mostly because of bad memories of failed bear runs, scout-based wipes, and so on.. *shudder* I’ve been carrying on with my pet collection (which I have updated Warcraft Pets with, and I’m praying I find the money for a Cenarion Hatchling because I have wanted the baby hippogryph pet since I first saw it but no way I could afford a TCG card) and the odd auction, and last night finally got around to doing a chunk of Archaeology, I’m finally past 450! I also got the Vrykul Drinking Horn, which is .. interesting. I have been enjoying playing with friends, and Softthistle even came over, which is lovely!

I have been tidying my blogroll as well. I mentioned the sidebar blogroll, and I’ve gone through my main blogroll as well as my reader, removing blogs past, and updating urls. It’s nice to see so many of you are still going! (Yes, I still like exclamation marks and bracketed text). I am wondering though, as I’ve been away for 3 months and didn’t pay too close attention just before I’d quit the game, are there any new and/or awesome bloggers that you think I’ve missed? I don’t plan to add to the blogroll, but if they aren’t on there now, they aren’t in my reader, and I’d like them to be. Please leave links in the comments, or poke me on twitter, I will keep my eye on Akismet.

All in all, despite the immature and selfish behaviour you tend to find in this game, and I’m not sure how long for, I’m glad to be back. :)

WoW Outside of Azeroth

I haven’t participated in a Shared Topic in a while, so I’ve browsed the forum, selected a few which are sitting in drafts waiting to be written, and my first is Oath’s idea:

Have you ever been out and about, minding your own business, having a casual conversation with a friend and fellow WoW player about the latest patch or last night’s dungeon, then some random stranger comes up to you and says something like, “Hey, I’m sorry, I couldn’t help but overhear, but do you guys play WoW? I’ve got a level XX [race] [class] on [server]“?

I’ve probably had two handfuls of people come up to me in real life, either overhearing I play WoW from conversation, or seeing that I’m wearing my Warlock shirt or Horde sweater, and strike up a conversation with me about the game.

While places of congregation abound, such as a gaming convention, comic book shop, or GameStop, the topic persists more of an unprecedented setting. I ran into an Alliance member at a mall outside of the restrooms and we had a heated debate about Varian Wrynn. A guy started a conversation with my cousin and me at a sushi bar because my cousin and I were discussing ICC. A friend and I were at dinner at an expensive restaurant, and I was telling her about my spec, as she was leveling a warlock, and our waiter chimed in about his warlock.

Have any of you out there in the blogosphere had this happen? If so, what was your experience like? Was it just a pleasant conversation or did you face off with a passionate member of the opposing faction?

Well, I can’t recall any eavesdroppings, from my part or anybody else’s, but I do remember a particularly nasty train journey, or as much as my terribly bad memory allows me to remember…

This was back in TBC, I was playing my shadow priest in Supreme, and my relationship with Dan was at this point long distance. Okay, compared to some I can’t complain, but a 7 hour train journey did suck a fair bit.

I think this particular night it had been snowing in some places, or more possibly raining quite heavily, so when I got to Cardiff the bloke in the orange coat who I asked which platform I was on, or God knows what now, told me the train to Birmingham was cancelled or heavily delayed, or something, so I’d need to get the train to Bristol and change there to get to Birmingham. So, I listened, at this point I just wanted to get home, I was cold and tired and didn’t particularly feel like sitting on trains, I wasn’t in the best of moods. Got to Bristol and the train was cancelled! I broke down, thinking I’d be stuck in sodding Bristol all night with no money or anywhere to stay, not a particularly nice train station either. I was wrong, a train came along to take us to yet another station to get us to Birmingham, I forget which, where I sat waiting rather impatiently for this, by now, doubtful train to Birmingham.

I sat next to a girl who was quite friendly and started talking to me. I’m usually quite a shy person, so it’s probably a good job she spoke to me, else not only would I have gone insane that night but I definitely wouldn’t have a post to write about this topic.

We talked about why we were stuck getting these stupid trains, me on my way home from visiting my boyfriend, her on the way to visit hers. I asked, “Oh, cool, how did you meet?” And she blushed.

“Just some online roleplaying game, heh, bit lame.” I became curious. At this point we had something in common, both meeting our other halves online.

“Really? Which one?”

“World of Warcraft.” She blushed harder.

“Really? Same here! We were in the same guild together! What server are you on?” Suddenly she stopped blushing and we got talking even more.

Sadly, I did finally get to Birmingham, but the last train back to my town had gone, so I had to get a taxi to my dad’s friend’s house to stay the night. That was a stressful night, but bumping into her really helped, it’s a shame we didn’t keep in touch.

MMO Who?

I’ve recently tried out a couple of different MMOs, played World of Warcraft for about 3 years, possibly more now. I tried Lord of the Rings Online for a 2 week trial and it was great but I decided to go back to WoW and wait for Aion. As soon as we could afford Aion, I installed and tried it out for a month, loved it. The character design is pretty damn good, the game play is fun, they have got a lot right. Though, as you’ve probably seen me complain about, the lag gets too much for me. So, a decision on my favourite MMO.

As boring as WoW gets, it is so developed that it’s hard to leave. I can spend time farming achievements, PvPing, doing 10 mans with friends, soloing old content, and things like that. Aion is such a new game in Europe that it’s very overpopulated and laggy, therefore I find it difficult to enjoy fully, so I’ll give it a break, give the population a little time to quiet down a bit. A good game to me boils down to being able to solo, find a nice social guild, find an average pug, but not be forced to go hardcore to enjoy myself and see the game. All in all, I think I preferred LOTRO, I was in a nice little guild, could laugh and joke, without feeling like I was surrounded by a pile of idiots, the game play was fun, definitely not too hardcore, or too easy, just some of the character design features that bothered me, my female elf, no matter how hard I tried, looked like Liv Tyler. Though I’m not sure which my favourite MMO is at the moment, I at least know which classes I like in each. Hunter, Hunter, Spiritmaster.

Hallow’s End

Outside of SM GY - Hallow's End

Outside of SM GY - Hallow's End

It’s Hallow’s End, again, think this is the third year I will have farmed that stupid boss. First year was for Dan’s plate helm which apparently existed for everyone but us. Obviously this and last year for the mount and pet and achievements.. Anyway, last year I did all of these achievements on my priest. Having rerolled since then I have to travel around clicking candy buckets and invading Southshore, not to mention GNERD RAGE!! It’s all I can massively bring myself to do in WoW at the moment, short of playing alts. With the huge lag and overpopulation at peak times/weekends on Aion, it at least gives me something to do, clicking candy buckets. Not to mention logging in as often as possible to attempt to get the Trick or Treat masks achievements. Will try to get my paladin the ret DPS ring, and my warlock the spell power rings for when/if I finally level her to 80. And of course, as shown above, the usual mass ganking outside of SM Graveyard.

Casual Play

I made a decision that if I end up playing WoW, it will be as a casual, no more proper guild raiding for me. If this happens I’ll end up achievement farming and I really am tempted to go for ‘The Insane’ … I don’t know why but I really want to do it. My priest farmed pirates outside of Booty Bay so much that she was revered with every Goblin faction… which put me off going for Bloodsail Buccaneer rep. However, Fae has only touched the Goblin stuff that she used to level with sooo.. if I’m feeling really crazy I might just do it.

Another thing about being a casual I remembered is not having any use for min maxing anymore! Woohoo. First thing I did was head to the North of Winterspring, and there was my little rare kitty wandering around. He became an ice cube, and can now be seen following me around going by the name of ‘NomNom’. Yay. Never really liked wolves. Suppose I’ll get Shifter out if I ever get into a 10 man or something for the extra DPS but otherwise he’ll be gathering dust…

You know my stable is so full I couldn’t tame another pet. Got my turtle for soloing, sporebat for PvP, bear for the sentimental value (first pet, effort, blabla), wolf and now cat.
